Whether you are just coming off your gefilte fish buzz or frantically attending spin class (boy, was I surprised when I showed up and it wasn’t about PR) in advance of the chocolate onslaught this coming weekend, it seems a good time to round up some helpful things I’ve recently found online .
Pursuing Personas:
If you’ve been struggling with B2B personas, visit this CMI post. It’s helpful, B2Bish (I just made that up) and you can read it in about five minutes.
Banishing Boring:
Doug Kessler from Velocity Partners gives B2B marketers a much needed kick in the arse in this terrific (and brief) slide show.
Acting Like a Grown Up:
“Lying, threatening, stonewalling, crying, sarcasm, shouting, silence, accusing, taking offense.” Sarah Green Carmichael says these like they’re bad things. Her slide show on HBR suggests these and other deeply amusing acts of war on your co-workers are really not helping and you need to start acting like an adult. This brief slide show on difficult conversations will get you started.
Now Where’s That Incense?
Here is a meditation that kicks the crap out of helicopters and spreadsheets and helps you to channel your resentment of, well, everything into a much nicer place. Oyl Miller works for Wieden + Kennedy in Tokyo but I think she really serves Cynica, the Goddess of B2B Marketing (yes, I made that up just now too).
Seditious Tomes:
This BNET bit on Ten Books Your Boss Doesn’t Want You to Read includes the usual suspects (Dilbert, Peter Principle), and one or two that are just a little odd (The Gospels) but I found a couple of gems I hadn’t previously heard of and that are keeping me quite busy plotting terrible punishments for the people on My List.
Putting the Evil in HR, where it belongs
Or does it belong in Finance? I can never keep that straight. Anyway, if you want pithy, useful, amusing tips on working, managing and remembering why it’s bad to bring a gun to work, check out Suzanne Lucas, AKA Evil HR Lady.
Copy That Blogger:
If you haven’t yet encountered Brian Clark and the good people at Copyblogger, now is your chance. Great ideas, helpful hints and useful insights await. It’s a particularly great place to hang out if you are stuck for something to write about or feeling like your copy is getting a little flabby. You can even subscribe so the copy comes to you.
Who is helping you get through the day? Send me your favourite links for marketing, business or revenge and I’ll include them the next time I’m too lazy to write anything original.
